Newborn Photography Frederick MD

One of the most common questions I get from expectant is what to wear to your newborn photography session. I get it as a new mama you are not typically looking like your pre-pregnancy self. As a mama myself, I get it, you are exhausted, stressed and you are still carrying around a lot of baby weight. I know a lot of new mothers don’t want to be in front of the camera but, I am always insistent that we capture at least a few pictures. Your newborn baby is only small for a short time and typically the mamas are the ones behind the camera, and let’s face it whenever dad takes a picture we inevitably look like a hot mess!

I also know that coming to your newborn session is one of the first times you have gone out of the house with your new baby and it can be overwhelming. One of the most important things is not to stress out! Come as you are and realize that you can relax once you arrive at my studio and even take a nap on the couch if you want. If you want to do your hair and makeup at the studio that is fine too. No judgement here.

I usually recommend wearing something neutral, so pastel, grey, white or beige. That way your images are cohesive, and the newborn baby is the focal point. Find something that you feel comfortable in, and that shows some skin because that skin to skin contact is a beautiful thing. Don’t worry if your heavier than your normal weight, I will pose you in flattering angles so you look your best. Keep in mind that all of these mamas have 1-2 week old babies in these pictures and they are not models. You will look and feel this great too and have these beautiful family photographs to remember how tiny your newborn baby was.
